Remember that any time we talk about the Bible in class, we are doing so from an academic perspective.  The Bible is an important part of western culture and is often found in western literature. If you have a knowledge of the Bible, then you might find it interesting to keep an eye out for various biblical allusions while we read The Scarlet Letter.
